About two hundred new concrete containers for selective waste collection will appear on the streets of the center of Zgierz from February to April. This is one of the positive effects of the City’s implementation of the “Zgierz – modern city after hours” project.
The first containers, four in each set, will be made available to passers-by from Wednesday, February 28, 2024. First, they will be available on the following streets: Popiełuszki, Dąbrowskiego and Czerwińskiego. – The contractor has delivered the first batch of ordered baskets, and the next ones will be delivered to us successively – explains Emilia Pokrzeptowicz, Head of the Municipal Waste Management Department of the Zgierz City Hall. Until April, as subsequent batches of made baskets are delivered, they will also be placed, among others, on the streets: Długa, Rembowskiego, Dubois and Sikorskiego.
The locations of the bins are related to places in the center of Zgierz, where maintaining cleanliness has previously been a problem. From now on, residents of the streets where the containers will be placed will have an easier time selecting waste: each bin, as you might guess, was intended for a different type of waste. A total of 196 containers will be on display, for the purchase of which just over PLN 400,000 was allocated under the project “PRL/6/4 – Equipping public places with containers for selective waste collection”. Earlier, as part of the same task, colorful “crayons” – containers for learning waste segregation intended for the youngest – were made and placed near children’s play areas.
The project, thanks to which baskets for selective waste collection appear in Zgierz, is carried out as part of the project “Zgierz – a modern city after hours”, co-financed by the Norwegian EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 under the “Local Development” program.
