Norwegian and EOG funds

The “Zgierz – modern city after hours” project, implemented under the “Local Development” Program, benefits from funding worth PLN 15 million received from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA and Norwegian funds. The aim of the “Zgierz – modern city after hours” project is to implement approximately thirty projects to improve the quality of life of the city’s inhabitants.

The EEA and Norway Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to creating a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

There are two general objectives: reducing economic and social inequalities in Europe and strengthening bilateral relations between donor countries and 15 EU countries from Central and Southern Europe and the Baltic Sea area. The three Donor States cooperate closely with the EU under the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). Donors provided €3.3 billion under successive fund programs between 1994 and 2014. The EEA and Norway Grants for 2014-2021 amount to EUR 2.8 billion. The priorities for this period are:

Eligibility for funds is based on meeting the criteria set out in the EU Cohesion Fund intended for Member States with gross domestic income per capita below 90% of the EU average.

The EEA Funds and Norwegian Funds program consists of two financial mechanisms. The EEA Funds are jointly financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, whose contribution is based on their GDP. Norway Grants are financed exclusively by Norway.

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are providing €2.8 billion in support
for 15 EU and EEA Member States from Central and Southern Europe and the area the Baltic Sea in the period 2014–2021.

The basis of the EEA and Norway Grants is the EEA Agreement.
Under this agreement, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway operate on the market internal EU. This agreement set out a common goal of common
working to reduce social and economic inequalities in Europe.
For this purpose, donors have created the EEA Funds and Norway Grants.

The beneficiary countries are Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

With EEA and Norwegian funds Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
want to contribute, among others: to improve growth and increase employment, solving problems related to climate change and energy dependence, and reducing poverty and social exclusion.

The beneficiaries are local, regional and national authorities and educational institutions and research, students, teachers and scientists, non-governmental organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises and social partners.
