The senior policy of the Commune of Zgierz, which has been implemented for several years, is considered a model throughout Poland of a well-run local government offer for older people. Thanks to it, people aged 60+ can benefit from a number of attractions, benefits and facilities all year round. The implementation of senior policy measures is also one of the projects of the “Zgierz – modern city after hours” project.
The Zgierz Senior Center has been operating for several years, established at the Department of Health, Social Affairs and Senior Policy of the Zgierz City Hall. After the revitalization of the historic wooden building at Narutowicza 29 Street is completed in May 2023., seniors from Zgierz have gained their own headquarters: an activity center where they can come and enjoy various forms of spending their free time.
Inside the restored house, which is part of the wonderful architectural heritage of wooden Zgierz, there is one large multi-functional room, as well as a room with space for a gym (fitness classes) and an “advice room” where various types of specialists are admitted. Outside, in the garden, when the property is landscaped, there will be space for flower plantings, where integration meetings or artists’ performances can be organized.
For older people, we created the Zgierz Senior Card – which then, after introducing a product with a wider range (i.e. the Zgierz Resident Card), was adopted in the new loyalty program as the “Senior” version. Users 60+ retained all their benefits in the Zgierz Resident Card, while gaining many new discounts, benefits and promotions.
An important part of Zgierz’s senior policy are regularly organized community events that integrate people aged 60+ and allow them to spend time with their peers. All of them are very popular! The calendar of events organized by the Zgierz Senior Center includes: New Year’s Eve party (organized each year in the MOSiR hall for about two hundred people), domestic and foreign trips (the “season” of which begins in spring), Senior Picnic connecting generations (organized in the summer months). , solemn celebration of Seniors’ Day – with the participation of invited artists (in November). Special events are also organized – such as the one on the occasion of the opening of the new headquarters of the Zgierz Senior Center in May 2023. The star of the concert at the MOSiR hall was Alicja Majewska.
The implementation of senior policy measures is possible, among others: thanks to the participation of the City of Zgierz in the “Local Development” Program co-financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021
